diVa® FAQs

Women that have had children or are experiencing menopause may be interested in a resurfacing treatment to improve the quality of their vaginal tissue.

diVa laser therapy addresses a variety of concerns including:

  • Vaginal laxity (when the vaginal tissue is over-stretched)
  • Vaginal atrophy (vaginal dryness, burning, itching and/or excess discharge or decreased vaginal lubrication during sexual activity)
  • Painful sex or loss of sexual sensation due to thinning of the vaginal tissue

diVa’s ergonomic design allows for comfortable, fast and easy treatments. Each procedure takes 3 to 5 minutes to treat the full length of a vaginal canal. Please allow approximately 30 to 45 minutes for your appointment for check-in, set-up, application of the topical anesthetic prior to the diVa treatment, and check-out/post-procedure discharge instruction.

Three laser treatments are given every 4 to 6 weeks, followed by one maintenance treatment every 12 months.

You may experience a slight pressure against the vaginal wall during the diVa treatment, and some patients may experience increased sensitivity near the vaginal opening. diVa laser therapy is fast with minimal discomfort.

You may return to your daily routine with minimal to no discharge, spotting, or discomfort; however, you should avoid sexual intercourse for up to 48 hours.

No, diVa is performed as in-office procedure. A topical anesthetic may be applied to increase your comfort but is not necessary.

diVa utilizes the world’s first and only revolutionary Hybrid Fractional Laser (HFL) technology. diVa delivers two laser therapies at once for a combined effect. The first laser deeply resurfaces the layers of the vaginal wall, replacing it with brand new, healthy tissue. The second laser heats the layers of the tissue where collagen exists. Unlike other laser therapies that only penetrate the top layer of tissue, the depth of the heat generated by the HFL technology penetrates through multiple layers of the vaginal tissue to stimulate healthier tissue, increase collagen, and improve tissue density and elasticity.

The initial consultation with a Chesapeake Urology provider costs $250. This fee is covered by most insurance plans. If you do not have insurance, the consultation fee, which includes an examination, is $250. At this time, insurance does NOT cover the cost of the diVa or diVaTyte. diVa costs $3,000 for three treatments.

For your convenience, Chesapeake Urology offers a financing plan through CareCredit.

No, diVa is not covered by insurance. However, many insurance plans cover the cost of the initial consultation and we will bill your insurance company the $250 consultation fee. If you do not have health insurance, the $250 will be due at the initial visit. Please check with your individual health plan on specific coverage. Chesapeake Urology does offer convenient financing plans through CareCredit.

The sensation described by women who have undergone diVa and diVaTyte is that it feels warm but not painful. A topical numbing cream will be placed in the vagina to help reduce any discomfort. Sedation or general anesthesia is not needed as the procedure is very well tolerated in the office.

Unlike other laser therapies, the diVa/diVaTyte hybrid laser technology allows for individual customization for your exact needs according to age, symptoms, the shape/size of your vagina and the degree of atrophy. Some of the other lasers only improve the top layer of tissue but the diVa/diVaTyte laser works on both the top layer and deeper into the collagen layer, promoting improved health of the vaginal tissue and increased strength and elasticity of the tissue. With the other laser types, it may appear less costly but you may need additional treatments as it does not penetrate to the deeper tissues.

In addition, with the diVa laser, a disposable dilator is used to cover the laser to ensure utmost hygiene and no chance of cross-contamination. The laser also remains stationary in the vagina during the entire treatment; the other lasers are manually turned during treatment. Because the diVa laser is fully automated, it results in the most precise laser treatment of the vaginal tissue. With diVa, there is less risk of complications due to the customization and precision of the hybrid laser.

Yes. Both treatments can be done on the same day. Plan on being in the office for 1 hour.

Surgical vaginal rejuvenation is a more invasive option for cases of severe vaginal laxity, and defects from prior childbirth trauma/episiotomy scars/tears during childbirth.

Surgery is performed under general anesthesia, it takes about two hours to perform. Afterward, at-home rest and recovery with exercise restrictions are necessary. Surgery is a good option for patients simultaneously needing sling placement for stress urinary incontinence. Surgery is also a good option for severe laxity.

Laser vaginal therapy is a minimally invasive, office-based procedure with little recovery and downtime. It is the only option to improve lubrication and vaginal mucosa tissue, and good for mild to moderate vaginal laxity.

diVaTyte™ FAQs

diVaTyte energy is delivered in a sequence of rapid pulses to gently warm the vaginal skin. The treatment is performed in a motion technique similar to getting a massage. Treatment time is typically within 10-20 minutes in order to ensure the sensation of warmth is uniform throughout the skin. Please allow approximately 30 to 45 minutes for your appointment for check-in, set-up, application of the topical anesthetic prior to the diVaTyte treatment, and check-out.

The warming sensation subsides almost immediately. You may experience some mild redness in the treatment area. A return to your normal skin color may occur as soon as a few minutes to approximately one hour. Sometimes, the skin swells slightly as the water in the tissue is heated. This is normal and is referred to as “happy edema” as it is a sign that the tissue is responding.

Since this is a non-invasive treatment, you may resume regular activities following the treatment. This can include bathing, swimming, and sexual activity. Your practitioner will guide you if a particular activity should be avoided in your situation.

The number of treatments may vary from patient to patient as well as the recommendation by your practitioner. A treatment assessment plan can be personalized for the level of improvement you desire. A typical plan is 3 to 5 treatment sessions spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart.

diVaTyte costs $350 per treatment and it is recommended that you have between 3 to 5 treatments for optimal results. Chesapeake Urology offers five treatments for $1,250, a savings of $500.

diVaTyte results may vary from patient to patient. The diVaTyte treatment is recommended for patients who desire mild to moderate noticeable skin improvement without having to undergo surgery. Your practitioner can consult with you on your level of improvement and goals. Full results of improved skin firming and reduced sagging skin are built around the body’s tissue remodeling process which can take up to 4 months for the foundation to be strengthened.
